Classification of steel structure

1.     Beam and beam related steel structure

The working characteristic of this type steel structure is that the beams have axial loading, if the structure consists of more beams, then the force analysis of each beam is more complex.

 

2.     Column steel structure

The characteristic of this type steel structure is that it has compressive stress or it has both compressive stress and longitudinal bending stress. The form of cross section usually are “工” shape,  box girder or tubular with round section. Colum steel structure usually is made hollow center with hollow wall which are formed by various steel profiles in welding. By using this structure, it can increase moment of inertia, enhance stability of structure, and in addition, it also saves lots materials.

 

3.     Lattice structure

This steel structure is composed of many compression members and axial tension members, each member is connected to each other by joint to form various shape structures, for example truss, framework. This steel structure is always used for building roof.

 

4.     Shell steel structure

These structures bear large internal pressure, therefore welding joints require very good air tightness, such as containers, receptacles, and pipes and so on, and it usually made of steel plate by welding. To fabricate these steel structure welders must be good and welding procedure must be good.

 

5.     Frame steel structure

This kind of steel structure like human skeleton, are used for crane and transportation machinery , it usually bears dynamic load, therefore it requires lighter and higher rigidity, like ship body frame structure, bus body frame structure, and truck carriage and so on. The materials used for frame structure and lattice structure are various steel profiles, sometimes the two types of structures are collectively referred to as lattice trusses. This steel structure requires lots welding work.
